Welcome to DataWorks. Let's grow.

  • What is the DataWorks Program?

DataWorks is a comprehensive incentive-based program that gives Toronto Metropolitan students the ability to develop their technical and professional capabilities for a career in the modern workplace. The program contains learning resources provided from the MDSA team through weekly tutorial sessions.

  • Fall Cohort

R is a core part of the in multiple programs throughout TRSM. It’s applications are wide spread across many industries, primarily regarding statistical analysis and modeling. Many students in TRSM have a basic understanding of the R language, however, the DataWorks program gives much more breadth to the fundamental concepts of R, and allows students to apply their knowledge to real world applications.

Python is one of the most ubiquitous open source programming languages available today. With applications that are virtually limitless, it is a key tool for many industry professionals who rely on robust languages for strenuous analysis. While it may not be as popular within programs at TRSM, the DataWorks program aims to provide students a strong foundation of the key concepts of Python, and enable them to apply those skills in multiple areas of interest.

SQL is the language of databases. This is what makes it such an essential tool in the modern workplace. Students tend to have limited exposure to SQL, so the DataWorks program aims to bring them up to speed on the fundamentals.

  • Winter Cohort

Power BI provided by Microsoft is one of the most widely used tools for data visualization and insight reports. 84,000 companies globally, Power BI is a vital skill for many roles, especially those involving data analysis and business intelligence and it allows businesses to bridge the gap between data and decision-making by transforming raw data from a range of data different sources into powerful insights. While it may not be as popular within programs at TRSM, the DataWorks program aims to provide students a strong foundation of the key concepts of Power BI, and enable them to apply those skills in multiple areas of interest.

Like Power BI, Tableau is a visual analytics platform transforming the way people use data to solve problems. Students tend to have limited exposure to Tableau, so the Dataworks Program aims to bring them up to speed on the fundamentals. Again, participation in this program does not require any experience with Tableau.

  • What does this program do for students?

This Dataworks program has one fundamental goal: to provide students the technical and professional skills necessary for success in the modern workplace. With no cost associated with admission to the program, students are free to participate without any financial constraints. Our hope is that by making DataWorks as widely accessible as possible, we can attract students from all walks of life. MDSA is fortunate to have access to an incredibly diverse population of students. We believe that when we provide these opportunities to students across genders, ethnicities, religious affiliations, and financial statuses, it can play a role in reflecting that diversity within technical fields across all industries

  • Will there be a certificate upon completion of the DataWorks Program?

Students who complete weekly modules covered in the DataWorks Program and participate in the final challenge will receive a certificate of completion upon the conclusion of each semester.

  • How can I apply?

Applications for the DataWorks program will be carried out on an application basis. This means that any student can sign up for the DataWorks program at any time during the Fall and Winter semesters. Additional resources will also be provided to new students, including the review documents for the weekly information sessions up until the time of application.

DataWorks teaches students the technical and professional skills used in the industry. Yeah, it’s that awesome.
